Parenting Techniques - Setting Boundaries

Children need parents set a boundary to help them grow into a respectful and responsible person. Over at indystar.com Courtenay Edelhart writes that setting boundaries is a teaching process. It’s never too early to set and enforce boundaries. Even can start from the stage of infants, like telling them that “pulling someone’s hair or snatching off eyeglasses isn’t OK”. For children ages 2 and younger :

Use the “three R’s”: Remove, Refocus and Replace.

If a child is handling a dangerous object, remove the source of danger. If that upsets the child, refocus their attention elsewhere. If the fuss is over the removal of something that can be replaced, find a substitute to calm him.
