Educational Card Games for Kids
Not only do our kids often feel bored, grownups also cannot avoid boredom. When your child comes up to you and says “Mom, I’m bored.”- it might be his/her signal or a chance for both of you to get connected. Why not play a card game with him/her? This idea was coming from my daughter initially. My daughter always put a set of Uno cards in her handbag. Why? She told me that during any waiting time outside, she could play it with her friends around. But if she’s alone, the only choice is iPod music.
Listed below are two websites posting some card game ideas, not for killing time, but for socializing and practicing some aspects of skills with fun:
Fun With Cards – provided by Activity Village
– practice with math skills “greater than”, “less than”, addition, subtraction or multiplication.
10 Children’s Card Games – provided by US Playing Card
- Two of them are:
I Doubt It (for ages 6 and up) – Counting and number sequencing.
Once I played “I Doubt It” as a brainstorming activity in my Sunday school class. They loved it and wanted to play till the end of our lesson.
Go Fishing (for ages 4 to 10) – Matching and pairing.
This is my family’s favorite card game when my children were small.
