What’s the magic word?
When children reach one or so, it seems that some of them turn to be bossy. Parents have to think about teaching them some social skills. Courtesy is the basic social skill which will help them relate to other people better. Don’t overlook helping your little ones to show their manners. Teaching courtesy not only bring harmony in children’s social life, but also reduce the possibility of being bossy.
Here’s a very simple way I used to teach my children to say, “thank you” or “please”. I’d put it as a game to play with them. When my children asked for something, such as asking for ice-cream after dinner, I’d ask, “what’s the magic word?” When he said “please”, he got ice-cream. And then I asked, “What’s the magic word again?” “Thank you.” No magic word, no ice-cream. Sometimes children will be confused with these two magic words. It doesn’t matter at all. They’ll get them eventually.
