The Secret to Healthy Dining-Out

It doesn’t matter who you are, a stay-at-home mom or working mom (may I also include stay-at-home and working dads), you have been working very hard day in and day out for your family. Sometimes I would think that moms deserve a break, not to cook and enjoy a dining-out. My husband genuinely shares my feeling.

What worries us is that we can hardly keep our healthy diet during dining out. According to a survey conducted by the American Dietetic Association quoted by PDRhealth, states “good diet plays a role in the prevention of such serious illness as heart disease and cancer”.

How can we enjoy family dinning-out and healthy food at the same time?

According to PDRhealth , “The good news is that restaurant menu planners are beginning to recognize the growing demand for healthier cuisine.” Here are some coping strategies, recommended by PDRhealth. Follow some of them and you can eat out as often as you wish—and still maintain a healthy diet:

  • Develop a personal list of convenient restaurants that serve a wide variety of fish, poultry, and lean meat, excellent salads, or interesting pasta give you the best chance to make nutritionally sound choices.
  • Double up on appetizers and skipping a main dish is a particularly good strategy with some ethnic cuisines, such as Indian, Thai, Middle-Eastern, or Chinese.
  • Eat a moderate portion of your entree, Eat slowly, put down the fork and enjoy the conversation.

My favourite part of this article is talking about ethnic cuisine, including Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese and French because I’d like to take dining-out as an adventure of enjoying different tastes. And I just can’t wait to go to Hong Kong for trying some of them !
