Tips for Helping Your Baby Sleep Through the Night

Most new parents have to go through many sleepless nights to take care of their newborns. Getting tired and tired..…. I think five to six hours of uninterrupted sleep is pretty necessary for parents who can function well. How can parents help their babies sleep through the night and get a good night’s sleep themselves? Over at FamilyFun there’s an excerpt of Joanne Cuthbertson and Susie Schevill’s book, posted with some quick tricks, called “focal feeding plus stretching” procedure to help babies under three months, sleep through the night.

The procedure goes into two phases:

Phase One – Start “Focal Feeding”
Beginning on the third day of life, always feed your baby between 10 P.M. and midnight even if you have to wake her. This is called the “focal feeding.” Be sure this feeding is a substantial one….

Phase Two – Continue “focal feeding” and begin “stretching”
When your baby weighs at least nine pounds, is five to seven weeks old, and does not suffer from health problems or colic, you can start the second phase of sleep training, which involves the following six steps. It should take about four nights to get your baby sleeping from midnight through 5 or 6 A.M….
