Tips on Keeping Potatoes From Budding

Dawn over at his Frugal For Life , one of my favorite blogs, has posted 11 practical tips, from fixing cracked dishes to keeping your car looking good and lasting a long time. Amongst these tips, keeping potatoes from budding is the most useful one to me. Simply place an apple in the bag with the potatoes. Easy job !

Even when potatoes are on sale at my nearby supermarket, I won’t buy too many because I was told that budding potatoes are toxic. I really want to experiment this tip to see if it works.

If you have a potato that’s sprouting, simply cut out the area around the sprout. Only the sprout itself has any toxins in it - and you’d have to eat a lot of potato sprouts to get sick.

I grew up in Idaho, the US “potato capital” and honestly, I must have cut sprouts off of millions of potatoes by now.
